/ Statement : Emma Gregory

For my ‘Polyrhythmic’ collection, I have created my own way of interpreting

electronic dance music into jewellery from the perspective of musical notation. In

order to gain more insight into the production processes used in the creation of

electronic dance music, I took classes at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp on

electronic music. A master-class on typography and writing systems, gave me the

opportunity to develop a unique form of musical notation for electronic dance

music, which I then used as a basis for creating my pieces – each link and element

represents a ‘bar’ or 4 beats of the music, each circle or line relates to the

percussion or harmonies respectively. My work is made of highly polished stainless

steel wires, laser-welded into tiny intricate shapes, transforming the songs that

inspire me into treasured objects.
