/ STATEMENT # BEYOND ART AND CRAFT

Art is seen as a form of work that articulates emotions and expressions. Craft comes from the practical mind as a result of skill, experience and need. In this deviation, jewellery has always been associated with metalwork and craftmanship instead of art.

In contemporary jewellery the line between art and craft becomes blurred. Whereas some makers have an emotional motive to start their work, others use their passion, knowledge of materials and skills to experiment, shape and create.

So where can we place contemporary jewellery in the spectrum between art and craft? And what lies beyond?
